What's up this week
Safety doesn’t rest. Its not human however it does seem to have a life of its own.
Culture exists in both society and the workplace. How you fit into that culture is your choice.
Our focus this month is on attitude. Safety attitude and cultural attitude – how we act and react with the people we work with. Activities and meetings will focus on treating each other with respect and treating safety with respect as well. Regardless of the level of authority in your position, a healthy work environment is YOUR responsibility. This means an environment free of animosity, free of finger pointing and more importantly a place where you know that each one of the people you work with “has your back” and you have theirs.
When you see an unsafe act, or an unsafe condition – bring it up to the worker or the supervisor/foreman. Consider how you are going to say it and remove any emotion from your statement. Sincere intentions can be sensed – insincere intentions are felt.
If you are being told or informed of an unsafe act or condition, receive the information in the way it was offered – to help you avert danger. Leave your anger at being told unspoken, take a minute to reflect on what information you are being given and why it is being offered.
Please share your positive safety attitude adjustments here.
